2022 Emmy Awards: 'Succession' Leads With 25 Nominations; 'Squid Game' Makes History With 14

In a virtual ceremony on Tuesday, JB Smoove and Melissa Fumero announced the nominations for the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards.

HBO's Succession earned the most nominations with 25, followed by Ted Lasso on Apple TV+ and The White Lotus on HBO with 20 each, Hacks on HBO Max and Only Murders in the Building on Hulu with 17, and Euphoria on HBO with 16 nominations, including one for Zendaya to secure her 2020 win.

The popular survival thriller on Netflix keeps creating history. The acclaimed South Korean drama is the first non-English show to receive an Emmy nomination.

'Squid Game's nominations have enabled the Television Academy to go global. The Squid Game has received 14 major category nominations for the Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series, making it the first Western-produced television series to do so. The Korean thriller from Siren Pictures is Netflix's most nominated show this year, followed by Inventing Anna (12 nominations), Ozark (13 nominations), and Stranger Things (13 each) (three).

Succession 'succeeds':

With 25 nominations, "Succession" breaks the record for the most acting nominations at the Emmys.

Others up for awards include Jeremy Strong and J. Smith Cameron for best-supporting actor in a drama series, Nicholas Braun, Kieran Culkin, and Matthew McFayden for best-supporting actor in a drama series, and Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong for best actor in a drama series.

The Race:?

HBO/HBO Max received 140 nominations, a record-breaking increase from the previous year's 130 nominations, thanks to the return of Succession, Euphoria, and Barry to the Emmy race after missing it last year.?

With 105 nominations, Netflix came in second, significantly fewer than the 129 it received in 2017. Hulu's 2021 nominations led to Hulu's 2021 nominations with 58, more than double its previous total. Both The Morning Show and the upstart Severance returned to the Emmy race.

To honor the year's best in TV and streaming, 119 categories will be considered.?Two shows made waves today in significant categories with lineups that have mostly been set in stone.

The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and Late Night with Seth Meyers will be the competition for Late Night with Seth Meyers' first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Variety Talk Series.

The Amazing Race, Nailed It!, RuPaul's Drag Race, Top Chef, and The Voice are all repeat nominees for the Outstanding Competition Program Emmy, along with freshman Lizzo's Watch Out for the Big Grrrls.
