To say that Sushmita Sen is one of a kind would be an understatement.?
After a long hiatus, she bounced back on the small screen with her digital debut in web series Aarya. Revolving around drugs and gang-lords, she played the role of a strong woman Aarya who will go to any extent to keep her family safe, even if it means messing with the Russian mafia.
After two successful seasons, she will return with Season 3 which is currently in the works. Instead of dedicating her time towards only the said project, she has also begun shooting for another interesting project. The project titled 'Taali' will be based on a transgender activist Gauri Sawant and she will be portraying her in the biopic series. This ambitious project is being helmed by Marathi filmmaker Ravi Jadhav.?
Sen took to Instagram to share the first look from the series. Reacting to her first look, Sushmita Sen¡¯s daughter Renee Sen took to the comments section and showered love on her mother, ¡°Maa????? So so so so proud of you ?? Dugga Dugga ? I love you the mostest".?
Sushmita¡¯s sister-in-law and television actress Charu Asopa also cheered for her, ¡°Wowww¡ First look is awesome.. so proud of you didi. looking forward ¡love you didi."
According to a Mid-Day report, Taali will require around 25-50 trans artistes every day. and around 300 transgender artistes have been hired for crowd scenes that will be shot over the next month.
Born as Ganesh Sawant, Gauri is a Mumbai based transgender activist who is renowned for working for the welfare and betterment of her community at the grassroots level. She is the director of Sakhi Char Chowghi Trust. Her NGO helps transgenders and others who are battling with HIV/AIDS.
She made headlines when she adopted a sex worker¡¯s daughter Gayatri in 2001 and was given the the title "the first transgender mother of India."?
In fact, she starred in a heart-warming short film/advertisement which narrated the story of an orphaned girl who is adopted by a transgender woman.?
In the video, the little girl shares her hard-hitting story of how she was rescued by her new mother. She goes on to reveal that she wants to become a lawyer when she grows up so that she can fight for the rights of her adopted mother.?
Gauri Sawant is a bold and courageous woman who is fighting against all odds for the betterment of the transgender community of India.?
As per a report by Peeping Moon, the six-part series will narrate Gauri¡¯s life and will depict her journey, challenges and all the obstacles that she overcame to become India¡¯s first transgender mother.
It is also being said that Sushmita Sen was so moved by Sawant¡¯s story that she reportedly agreed to play the role. In fact, Sen wants to shed the image of a glamorous and independent woman and take on a project that will challenge her acting capabilities. The series will not only dabble with Sawant¡¯s story but will also explore the beautiful mother-daughter relationship.?
The actress will finish filming for this series by the end of November and will then commence shooting for the third season of Aarya which is being helmed by Ram Madhvani.?
