'Ullu Laughing In Corner', Internet Reacts As Centre Blocks 18 OTT Platforms Over Obscene Content

18 OTT platforms were targeted by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Thursday for disseminating vulgar and obscene content. Following several warnings from Union Minister Anurag Thakur, the Center has banned these platforms nationally.

Along with OTT platforms, the government has also taken strong action against 57 social media accounts, 10 apps (seven available on the Apple App Store and seven on Google Play Store), and 19 websites.

?As per a release issued by PIB, ''a significant portion of the content hosted on these platforms was found to be obscene, vulgar, and portrayed women in a demeaning manner. It depicted nudity and sexual acts in various inappropriate contexts, such as relationships between teachers and students, incestuous family relationships, etc. The content included sexual innuendos and, in some instances, prolonged segments of pornographic and sexually explicit scenes devoid of any thematic or societal relevance.''

Internet Reacts To OTT Platforms Getting Banned

Reacting to it, one wrote, “Why Ullu And Alt Balaji Not Banned?” Another added, “Is this the reason behind Alt Balaji not being banned ? Government banned 18 OTT platforms but not Alt Balaji & Ullu.”

A third went on to add, “Why Ullu And Alt Balaji Not Banned? Both of these should also be closed, are you interested or not.”

A fourth added, “Why Ullu and Alt balaji not banned. They are the prime runners of adult series.I criticize on govt about this.”
