When grief meets hope, and pain meets purpose, stories like El mapa de los anhelos are born. Based on the much-loved novel by Alice Kellen, this emotional and powerful story is now being adapted into a limited series by Netflix, in collaboration with Brutal Media. The release date hasn¡¯t been officially confirmed yet, but the buzz is strong that it will stream by late 2025 or early 2026.
At the center of El mapa de los anhelos is Greta, a girl who has always believed she was born to save her sister Lucy, who battles leukemia. Greta donates her stem cells, holding on to hope, but life takes a harsh turn when Lucy passes away. Greta is left lost, angry, and empty. But Lucy, even in her final days, wanted her sister to live fully.
She leaves behind a game, a map of sorts, called El mapa de los anhelos (The Map of Longings), challenging Greta to go on a journey of self-discovery. More than a game, it¡¯s a lifeline, filled with tasks that slowly help Greta reconnect with the world, with herself, and with the parts of her she never dared to explore.
And on this journey, Greta meets Will - a mysterious young man carrying his own emotional baggage. Together, they confront questions of love, identity, and healing. Can someone truly love another if they haven¡¯t learned to love themselves first?
For author Alice Kellen, this adaptation is a dream come true. In a media statement, she shared, ¡°El mapa de los anhelos will come to life on screen, and I am very happy to embark on this exciting journey that began, step by step, with the love of the readers. I hope it brings them as much joy as it brings me.¡±
The adaptation is being written by Isa S¨¢nchez, known for emotionally layered work like The Gardener and Raising Voices. Production is in the hands of Brutal Media, the team behind series like Bank Under Siege and Welcome to Ed¨¦n.
