Johnny Depp previously revealed that he was asked to resign from "Fantastic Beasts 3" after losing the high-profile libel case against Amber Heard. The publishers of The Sun newspaper in a 2018 article had called him a "wife-beater."
Seems like the tables have turned for Johnny after his victory in the defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard. And now, if the sources are to be believed, Johnny might end up making a comeback in the Fantastic Beasts series as wizard Gellert Grindelwald. And Mads Mikkelsen, the actor who took over the part after him, has agreed on the same.
The Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts film series is the ninth overall in the Wizarding World film series. In the first two Fantastic Beasts Series, Johnny portrayed Grindelwald. However, the third instalment of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore starred Mads Mikkelsen.
The recent legal decision, according to Mikkelsen, may have opened the door for Depp to reclaim the part in a potential sequel.
Mikkelsen stated in a recent interview with Deadline, Ą°Obviously, well, now the course has changed ĄŞ he won the suit, the court ĄŞ so letĄŻs see if he comes back. He might.Ąą
He further added, Ą°IĄŻm a big fan of Johnny. I think heĄŻs an amazing actor, I think he did a fantastic job. Having said that, I could not copy it. ThereĄŻs there was no way I could just copy it because itĄŻs so much him. It would be creative suicide. So, we had to come up with something else, something that was mine, and build a bridge between him and me.Ąą
The actor added that he was nervous about taking on the role after Johnny, and he understood why his fans' "hearts were broken."
It is disheartening as The Secrets of Dumbledore was the lowest weekend box office opening of any Harry Potter film till date. Though the author J.K. Rowling previously stated that she intended for the film franchise to have five total instalments, there hasn't been any official confirmation about the same.?
