Kannappa OTT Release Update: This Vishnu Manchu¡¯s ambitious mythological epic is set for a grand theatrical release on June 27, 2025. However, the film has recently been embroiled in controversy following the theft of a hard drive containing crucial footage. This incident has raised concerns about potential delays and the film's subsequent availability on OTT platforms.
Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh and produced by Mohan Babu, Kannappa is a high-budget Telugu-language fantasy film based on the legendary devotee of Lord Shiva. The film stars Vishnu Manchu in the lead role, with cameos by Prabhas, Mohanlal, Akshay Kumar, and Kajal Aggarwal. The movie has been shot extensively in New Zealand and is slated for release in multiple Indian languages, including Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, and English.
Despite the controversy, Kannappa is reportedly running on track for its theatrical release on June 27, 2025. As for its digital release, while a specific OTT platform has not been officially announced, a Rozana Spokesman report suggests the film will premiere on Amazon Prime Video. This would be approximately 4 to 8 weeks after their theatrical debut. Given this timeline, viewers can anticipate Kannappa to be available for streaming by August 2025.
In a significant setback, a hard drive containing key scenes from Kannappa was reported stolen in Hyderabad. The production house, 24 Frames Factory, filed a complaint stating that the hard drive, which was being transported via courier, was unlawfully intercepted by two individuals named Raghu and Charitha, who are not associated with the production. The theft is under investigation, with authorities reviewing CCTV footage and tracking leads.
The production house has labelled the incident as an act of "sabotage and personal vendetta," suggesting that the theft was orchestrated with malicious intent to disrupt the film's release.
