Manvat Murders is releasing tomorrow, that is, October 3, on OTT platform Sony LIV. The show is based on the real-life brutal killings in Maharashtra many years ago. The case that came into the spotlight in 1970 even shocked the Supreme Court of India as it was a story of gruesome murders and human sacrifices. Here is what you need to know before the release of the SonyLiv show:?
The killings in Maharashtra's Manwat (Manvat as used in the show) took place in the early 1970s. The case involved human sacrifice, blood offerings to a local deity, and even a hunt for long-lost treasure.
The identities of the victims were not really disclosed in order to prevent their remains. Out of the victims killed was one 10-year-old girl. According to reports, the girl was beheaded.
Gruesome killings like this one in Manwat always attracted the interest of filmmakers. This is not the first time that a case has inspired digital content. Occult practices in the past had inspired Saravasakhi in the year 1978 and Akriet in 1981.
Manvat Murders, to be released on October 4, will revisit the killings from the point of view of the main police investigator. Manvat Murders is a Marathi series and is adapted from a chapter of Footprints on the Sands of Crime, a book by former Maharashtra Director General of Police Ramakant Kulkarni.
