For Bollywood, it has not been a fantastic year.
Not that the movies lacked celebrities or spectacles. Big-budget thrillers with stars like Ranbir Kapoor in Shamshera or Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha, have failed to make money at the box office.
Whereas, that was not the case with the Kashmir files. A divisive Hindi film, The Kashmir Files which has been criticised for inciting Islamophobia, has by far been this year's biggest hit; the movie even did well on digital platforms.
Every time a much-discussed movie performed poorly at the box office during the past few months, the future of Hindi cinema has come under fire. All of these hotly anticipated disasters had one thing in common: they were all headlined by male performers who had previously dominated the box office. There have been allegations, meanwhile, that movies with strong female leads are also doing poorly.
During an interview with SheThePeople, Vidhya Balan stated, ¡°The pandemic has become an easy excuse for people to say that now female-led films will not work in the theatres, because basically, our industry is going through some kind of flux where a lot of our films are bombing, terribly. And they are your so-called, male hero-led films. But who takes the beating is the female-led films.¡±
The way Vidhya presented her case made us believe that her line of reasoning was fair, and it made us wonder if women-centric films were being unfairly criticised.
In terms of ratios and returns on investments, Balan's "Worst Flops Have Generated More Money" than some of the biggest disasters of this year holds true. This is due to female-led movies having a distinct market because they are far less expensive.
But if we talk about Bollywood as a whole, not one or two, but several movies that were expected to set records ended up becoming the biggest disaster of 2022. Seems like the ongoing #Boycott trend among the public appears to be one of the factors contributing to the movie's failure. We are unsure if we support this trend because it takes a lot of work to produce a movie, and if you boycotted it because a star said something, the movie lost money for everyone, not just the celebs, as this trend is also harming the rest of the crew members.

Even though his next movie, Raksha Bandhan, was released after Samrat Prithviraj, it appears like Akshay Kumar is having a bad year overall. When Prithviraj Chauhan decides to provide Mir Hossain with protection from his brother, Muhammad Ghori, he paints a target on his back. The plot of the movie follows a simple progression: early childhood, the first battle, marriage, the second fight, death, and Prithviraj's legacy. Sanyogita, Prithviraj's better half, was Manushi Chhillar's first acting role. Alongside Akshay Kumar, Sonu Sood also made an appearance in the movie, albeit Sonu, who was only recently lauded as a superhero for his charitable endeavours, is still playing a supporting role similar to the one he performed in Jodhaa Akbar.

It looks like the reason it failed so horribly was that it was the big-budget VFX film that was so eagerly anticipated.
Shameshera, the film starring Ranbir Kapoor and Vaani Kapoor, bombed at the box office and even on OTT. One such instance where something went horribly wrong. The VFX in the historical drama film Shamshera are so terrible that online users openly blame them for the film's disappointing box office performance. The cast was occupied enjoying and celebrating their film when the internet quickly pointed out a huge error in the script, which left the fans rather laughing at the direction. In the last scene, while Ranbir and Sanjay Dutt are engaged in combat, Vaani Kapoor can be seen shielding her "Baby" and taking part in the fight scene with a sword.
The narrative is about A slave in the city of Kaza who fights valiantly against a brutal general to release his deceitfully imprisoned warrior tribe.
