While some people loved the show, there were others who criticised the Sanjay Leela Bhansali web series for inaccuracies; but ever since the show starring Sharmin Segel, Sonakshi Sinha, Manisha Koirala, Richa Chadha and Sanjeeda Sheikh among others has been released, people are only talking about it. So much so that, that Heeramandi has become the most-watched Indian web series on Netflix with?33 million viewership.?
Since its release on May 1, Sharmin Segal, who plays the role of Alamzeb in the series, has been receiving a lot of troll comments for people felt she was acting "expressionless" in the series. For the unversed, Sharmin is Bhansali's niece who made her debut in an SLB film called Malaal. Soon, the actress disabled comments from her recent Instagram post. Now, for the first time, she has finally opened up on the backlash she has received.?
In conversation with BBC Asian Network podcast, she highlighted the pressure she faces on an everyday basis and said, "If I start taking all that pressure on myself¡ I am a very strong advocate for mental health and living a happy life. So, I do want to do what I want to do and I would love for everyone to love Alamzeb. But, at the end of the day, there will be people who have to say what they have to say."
Furthermore, she added, "In my personal life, I am secure enough today to come home to my husband and put everything that I have done at work aside. But I am not that person who¡¯s gonna constantly put that much pressure on it. Yes, I do want to prove myself; but today I am also a realist in that way."
Sharmin was subject to brutal trolling. For instance, a fan who watched Heeramandi wrote, "Oh god every time that Sharmin chick appeared I had to hit the fast forward button. It actually made me irrationally angry LOL. But she was terrible. Another one said, "Could¡¯ve still been interesting without Sharmin. She was objectively so bad."?
