Despite shows being a dime a dozen across OTT platforms, there are only a few that become a rage on the internet. There can be several reasons behind the same including personal preferences and varied tastes, but there are some shows that become a cult for the masses.

Manifest is one such show. Interestingly, the show first came out in 2018 and then faded away into oblivion. It wasn’t very well-received by audiences which is why it got shelved after the third season. It got a second lease of life only after Netflix bought the rights. Since then, it has been in the list of top 10 across many countries.

The Plot

Manifest revolves around the mysterious Montego Flight 828. After facing immense turbulence, the flight made it safely to New York. However, this miracle soon turned into a nightmare for the passengers when they came to know that the plane made it to the ground after five and a half years. In what felt like a 4-hour flight actually took years to land! Flight 828 left from Jamaica in 2013 and landed in New York in 2018. That isn’t the only catch! None of the passengers aged a day as to them, only a few hours had passed.?

The intrigue heightens when these passengers go back to their older lives and find out that their families not only aged but had also moved on with their lives after mourning for their respective deaths.?

Many passengers found it extremely difficult to adjust to new situations that they came back to. The family of Ben Stone, which is at the center of the show, had undergone massive changes. Some members had passed away, one of the twins was five and a half years older than her twin brother who was on the fateful flight which meant that they were no longer twins. The mother had been dating another man, among other several changes.

Where did the plane go? How is it possible that all the passengers are the same age as when they boarded the flight? These questions constantly keep the audiences on their toes

Soon after their return, the world is in a fix. Media, officials and commoners cannot help but ask zillions of questions about such an unnatural event. There’s confusion galore. This obviously adds to the intrigue of the show as the unpredictability makes it even more exciting.?

There are many theories behind the return of the 828’ers. From divine intervention of God, aliens to humans with new technology, people come out with all sorts of possibilities.

There are religious undertones surrounding these characters that are said to be fulfilling their destinies.? There’s plenty of science in the mix too. On top of that, the passengers soon find themselves getting visions that they term as ‘callings’. Their subconscious sends them on missions to save people and situations from going south.?

There were 191 people on the plane. All these passengers appear to be connected to each other in some way or the other.

Each episode introduces us to new passengers, and their storylines overlap with each other in new ways. These complete strangers are brought together to figure out the mystery. The idea that it is God that may have resurrected the passengers and gave them the Callings so that they can help people is the strongest theory that has been floating throughout the three seasons.

As if these complications aren’t enough, another troubling thing for all the passengers is the threat of their looming ‘Death Date’.?

The ‘Death Date’ is based on the concept that a person who returned from a disappearance only gets to live for the exact duration for as long as they were gone. The plane passengers are destined to perish on June 2, 2024 which is exactly 5 and a half years after they returned from the fateful flight. The mission is to avert the death date. All of them have to go to extreme lengths to make that happen.?

As for the next season of this interesting show is concerned, Jeff Rake, Manifest's creator, offered some encouraging words as he responded to the reports, tweeting: "This is exciting. Let’s make it happen."
