Vicky Kaushal Calls Govinda Naam Mera An Ode To Masala 90s Films, Is Glad There Was No 'Crying'
Vicky Kaushal fans are elated ever since the release of his upcoming movie Govinda Naam Mera¡¯s trailer release. Many are relieved to see him in a non-serious movie. The actor agrees.
Speaking at the trailer launch event, he said, ¡°This is the film I was shooting after ¡®Sardar Udham¡¯. So I was very happy. I felt every day was like a party. I would come shoot, have fun. There was no serious scene, there was no crying.¡±?
Vicky Kaushal also spoke about his inspiration to pursue a career in cinema. He said that Bollywood films like Khiladi franchise and DDLJ that first sowed the idea in his mind.?
¡°I have grown up watching films of Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan, and Govinda. I started going to theatres also a bit late. I would often watch films on TV, like Akshay¡¯s ¡®Khiladi¡¯ movies. I have been a fan of these films. So, the first seed of becoming an actor was sown by these films.¡±
¡°¡®Govinda Naam Mera ¡® is another fragment of the same fabric. It is an ode to those pulpy films in which there was murder, comedy, suspense, thrill, love, etc. I am grateful to Shashank who came up with the film for keeping it contemporary and also giving an ode to that pulpy Bollywood masala,¡± Kaushal further explained.
Written and directed by Shashank Khaitan, the comedy crime thriller tells the tale of an underdog and his family¡¯s madness. The film features Kiara Advani as Kaushal¡¯s girlfriend, Suku, and Bhumi Pednekar as his wife Gauri.
Karan Johar Explains Why They Chose To Release Govinda Naam Mera On OTT
At the event, a journalist asked Karan Johar, as this film is his production, why they chose to release the film digitally and skip a theatrical release.
To which Karan Johar said, "We ourselves have created this divide that commercial films are for theatres and the slightly off-the-cuff films are meant for digital. We realised that Disney+ Hotstar is a wild platform. Jitne gharon tak unka reach hai, utne cinema halls nahin hai hamare desh mein. So I believe ki yeh mainstream masala entertainer ko bahut khoobsurat ghar mila hai. So, there were no second thoughts. I guarantee you that the whistles and claps would reach us."
Meanwhile, Vicky Kaushal's wife and actress Katrina Kaif took to Instagram to root for him. Kiara's alleged boyfriend and soon-to-be husband Sidharth Malhotra was also all praises for the comic caper.
