It's an all new feat for Shefali Shah and her show Delhi Crime Season 2! After the show's first season won an Emmy award a while ago, this time, she has been nominated in best actress category for the show's second season.?
Taking to her Instagram, Shefali expressed how she is finding it hard to believe this milestone. She called Delhi Crime a special project and that being nominated is an overwhelming feeling. The actor is nominated alongside Connie Nielsen for the Danish series Drommeren, Billie Piper for the British show I Hate Suzie Too and Karla Souza for the Mexican series La Caida.
This dialogue beautifully sums up the second season of revered series Delhi Crime 2. The first season managed to achieve several milestones including an International Emmy, it was only natural to have high expectations from the second installment. It¡¯s safe to say that the price for such a daring attempt would be more recognition along with double the nominations.?
While season 1 tackled the heinous Nirbhaya gang rape case, this one revolves around serial killings of elite aged people who live alone and unguarded. A group of killers by the name of Kachcha Baniyan gang wreak havoc in the capital and become a pain in the ass for DCP Vartika Chaturvedi and her team. How this amazing team cracks the case forms the rest of the plot.
Interestingly, unlike season 1, which by the way, was also crisp as opposed to the other contemporary series, Delhi Crime 2 consists of only 5 episodes. It¡¯s a very intelligent call by the makers to not give time to the audience to watch it in installments. The narrative and the unfolding of drama is so on point that you wouldn¡¯t be able to keep your eyes off of the screen for even a second.?
There¡¯s a lot to soak in and I found myself rewinding a couple of times as I felt I missed out on a vital detail. It¡¯s made in such a way that binge-watching it is the only way to go and because of its handful number of episodes and 40 mins approx runtime, you¡¯ll feel satiated once you finish.
Instead of only concentrating on Vartika¡¯s personal life, the character arcs of other police officers have been woven intricately. There are a few new faces but watching Bhupendra, Gopal, Subhash Jairaj, Neeti and others work in sync with each other gives an adrenaline rush. This season has more goosebumps inducing scenes, especially during the setting up of the premise.
The world is a tricky place to be in, at the moment. With so much communal disturbances and unnecessary casteism, cultural bias and gender stereotypes becoming a part of our daily lives, the show addresses a grave problem of stereotyping people belonging to a specific community in a subtle yet effective manner. Crime is only related to the criminal and not the caste or social group that he/she belongs to.?
Another thing that stands out the most is how there¡¯s no constant reminders of women taking charge or the over-the-top feminism chatter. Madam sir is the one anchoring the ship and it¡¯s her course of direction that counts, not her femininity.?
Right from Shefali Shah, Rasika Duggal, Rajesh Tailang, Adil Hussain, Gopal Dutt, Sidharth Bhardwaj, Denzil Smith, Yashaswini Dayama to Tillotama Shome, everyone has nailed their characters to perfection.?
From Sub-inspector Jairaj cursing his heart out, SHO Subhash getting emotional over nothing to Inspector Bhupendra coaxing criminals to surrender, watching each one of them do their thing is heart-warming. DCP Vartika Chaturvedi has a solid team that is stellar at their job albeit minor fuck-ups that are a part and parcel of every profession. The teamwork is top-notch. Thankfully, the actors look like normal human beings and not the chiselled?demi-gods with constant smouldering?expressions on their faces.?
Overall, the sequel has done justice to the franchise and those minor flaws can be easily overlooked. This is probably one of the few web series whose sequels people won¡¯t mind watching. More so because it has successfully beaten the sequel jinx which suggests that installments seldom succeed the original series/movies.
Fabulous Bollywood wives and Sima Taparia can take a hike, we'll always be team Madamsir. period.?
