Netflix is all set to bring home Spellbound this November. Directed by Vicky Jenson known for Shrek and Shark Tale, this musical adventure fantasy comedy was initially meant to be an Apple TV+ original but the streaming giant let it go. Spellbound will now stream on Netflix from November 22, 2024, at 1.30 pm for viewers worldwide.
Spellbound revolves around a young princess who has to battle dark evil magic that has been cast over the kingdom and the spell that transformed her parents into monsters. Zegler assumes the role of Princess Ellian who has to race against time failing which her parents would be eternal monsters and darkness would reign supreme over her kingdom. Kidman and Bardem voice the parents in the film.
The movie will feature voice talents like John Lithgow, Rachel Zegler, Javier Bardem, Nicole Kidman, Jenifer Lewis, Nathan Lane and Tituss Burgess among others. Spellbound features music by award-winning composer Alan Menken, lyrics by Tangled fame Glenn Slater, screenplay by Julia Miranda and the writing team of Lauren Hynek and Elizabeth Martin.
In a media statement, Zegler said that playing Princess Ellian was perfect for the child in her. ¡°Taking on this job was so cool for my inner child. I was obsessed with animated films as a child, including Beauty and the Beast, which had such a gorgeous, sweeping score by Alan Menken, who did the music for our film. Films like these made me fall in love with musical theatre, which ended up changing my life,¡± she said.
