It's been 20 years since?Aitraaz, a tale of?femme fatality that changed the way we looked at sexual harassment forever. Twenty years after its release, filmmaker Subhash Ghai has confirmed that a sequel of the film, which originally starred Priyanka Chopra and Akshay Kumar in lead roles, is in the works. Subhash Ghai who produced the 2004 movie directed by iconic duo Abbas-Mustan says he has received a script for the sequel and he just loved it. "I've heard a fantastic script from Amit Rai, the writer-director of?Oh My God 2, which has been written as?Aitraaz 2?now," he was quoted as saying by HT.??
The romantic thriller which also starred Kareena Kapoor, Amrish Puri, Annu Kapoor and Paresh Rawal among others was loosely based on 1994 film Disclosure, starring Michael Douglas and Demi Moore, which was based on?Michael Crichton's novel of the same name. About the film which told the story of a man accused of sexual harassement by her boss, Akshay Kumar had revealed in 2004, during a conversation with Rediff.com that, "Aitraaz is based on the life of (American) basketball player Kobe Bryant. He was sued for sexual harassment. This film is going to create a new kind of mainstream genre."??
For the unversed, the basketball player was accused of sexual assault by a 19-year-old hotel employee who alleged the incident happened in a hotel room.?Bryant however denied the charges. He claimed that the encounter was consensual. While he was initially charged with felony sexual assault, later in 2004 the criminal charges against him were dropped after the woman refused to testify.
