In a surprising revelation, veteran politician Subramanian Swamy alleges that Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, not the Indian government, played a crucial role in securing the release of eight Indian Navy veterans from a Qatari prison.
Clearing the air, his team issued a clarification. The statement reads, "Regarding the reports concerning Shah Rukh Khan's purported role in the release of India's naval officers from Qatar, the office of Mr. Shah Rukh Khan says that any such assertions of his involvement are unfounded, emphasizing the execution of this successful resolution solely rests with the Indian government officials and unequivocally denies Mr.Khans participation in this matter. Additionally, all matters involving diplomacy and statecraft are best executed by our very able leaders. Mr. Khan, like many other Indians, is happy that the naval officers are back home safe and wishes them all the best."
Swamy, known for his controversial statements, boldly asserts that the Qatari government released the veterans at Shah Rukh Khan's request after diplomatic efforts by the Indian government failed. He suggests an unconventional approach for future negotiations.
The accusation follows Prime Minister Modi's tweet about visiting the UAE and Qatar to deepen India's bilateral relations. Swamy commented on the tweet, suggesting that "Modi should take Shah Rukh Khan to Qatar with him," claiming that Khan's intervention led to an expensive settlement with the Qatari government for the release of the Naval officers.
On February 12th, eight Indian Navy veterans, previously sentenced to death in Qatar, were released. The Ministry of External Affairs credits diplomatic efforts by the Indian government and personal intervention by PM Modi for their safe return.
In an interview with ANI, the Navy veterans thanked PM Modi for addressing the matter with Qatar¡¯s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The veterans acknowledge Modi's untiring efforts at the highest levels for their freedom.
This comes as pictures capturing Shah Rukh Khan being warmly greeted by Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani have surfaced on X (formerly Twitter). The actor was in Doha to attend the AFC Final as a special guest of honour.
As the controversy unfolds, Shah Rukh Khan once again becomes the focus of public attention. While acclaimed for his contributions to the entertainment industry, Khan's purported involvement in diplomatic affairs raises questions about the scope of his influence beyond the film industry and its potential impact on his dynamic career.
