Doha released eight Indian Navy veterans sentenced to death in Qatar on Monday, marking a significant diplomatic victory for India.Following diplomatic intervention from New Delhi, the death penalty was modified to a prolonged prison sentence.?
In response to desperate demands from the Navy veterans' families for their release and safe passage back to their homeland, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) promised to use all diplomatic channels and offer legal aid to bring them back.
Seven of the eight former Navy officers have already returned to India, according to an official statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday.
Taking to X, Mahindra wrote, "Eight lives.Eight families. Their nightmare converted into hope and then joy.There are many diplomatic advantages to being a growing economic power. But saving the lives of citizens is the most heartwarming way in which to utilise that strength."

Anurag Thakur also joined the moment of celebration.?Minister of Information and Broadcasting of India wrote on X, "Modi government has secured the release of its eight citizens and Navy veterans from Qutar who were detained here under some false charges. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi means the guarantee of life, limb and liberty of the people of India across the globe. This homecoming of our Navy veterans is a moment of happiness and this further strengthens our believe in the seriousness and ability of the Modi government to protect its citizens at any cost."
