Manoj Bajpyee married?Shabana Raza aka Neha Bajpayee in 2006. It was love at first sight. They met at Hansal Mehta's party. She had no make up on her face and oil in her hair.?
"Maine socha ki yaar Bollywood ki kisi heroine mein to itna saahas nahi ki baalo mein tel lagakar party mein aa jaaye, to bas is saadgi par dil aa gaya," he revealed in a book.
When they first met, Shabana was disturbed and upset as her film Kareeb had flopped. However, after meeting Manoj at the party, she had a good time.?
The couple dated for eight years before tying the knot. They have a daughter named Ava.
Talking of their inter-faith marriage and if there was any pressure from the society or family, Bajpayee told?Barkha Dutt on Mojo Story, "Had there been any, it was not conveyed to me, it was not made obvious to me. I come from a Brahmin family, she comes from a reputed family. But, surprisingly, none of my family members objected to it. Never. (have there been comments on the caste or religion). Till now, never."
"She¡¯s a proud Muslim, like I¡¯m a proud Hindu, but it doesn¡¯t clash with each other. Because we are more spiritual than religious. Even if they would¡¯ve talk about the religion of my wife, they could not have the strength or the courage to speak to me, on my face. Because they know that I don¡¯t mince my words. I¡¯m very hard when it comes to anyone talking like that. I come very, very hard. I¡¯m a tough guy then."
Manoj Bajpayee recently told Mashable that he is quite protective about his family and sometimes goes overboard with it. "Kuch zyada protective nature ka hun to daant pad jaati hai (I sometimes go overboard so they shut me down). Today¡¯s women, whether it be my wife or my daughter, they don¡¯t want you to be extra protective of them and somewhere they are very right. That kind of over-protectiveness can become suffocating," he said.
