When promoting her new film, Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway, actor Rani Mukerji became emotional upon meeting Sagarika Chakraborty, the mother whose story inspired the film.?
Rani portrays the role of Debika Chatterjee, a distraught mother who fights the government for custody of her children.
The book The Journey of a Mother by Sagarika Chakraborty provided the basis for the film.?
A paparazzi account on Instagram posted footage of Rani hiding her face with her hands before Sagarika entered the stage. While Karan Johar tried to comfort Rani, who had donned a white sari for the event, she turned around and wiped her tears.
Sagarika showed up to Rani and hugged her, which made the actress smile. The song "Subho Subho" was playing softly in the background.
"I saw it as someone so connected to her roots."
Rani added,?※It is quite a surprise for me. I don*t know how to react. I can just say that I*m happy and relieved with the way she liked the film because it is her story, her struggle. She*s given me full marks. It is a good beginning for me and the film. I feel and understand what she*s gone through.§
Earlier, Sagarika reacted to the film's trailer and said she broke down after watching Rani trace the same journey.?
Reacting to the trailer, Sagarika had said,?"It*s hard to describe how it feels seeing my story being told. Watching the trailer, I felt like I was reliving my battle. I believe it is important for people to know this story and to see how immigrant mothers/parents are treated even today, as is evident from the tragic story in Germany. I*ve been in touch with Ariha Shah*s mother, Dhara, whose little girl has been taken away. I implore you all to stand by her, just as I do. My support is unconditional, from one mother to another. I want to thank Rani Mukerji for channeling the grief and struggles that I went through to win back my children. She is a mother herself, and I thank her for bringing a mother*s painful journey on screen with so much dignity that I broke down while seeing her in the trailer,"
Based on a real-life event, the director recently released the official trailer, which has since gotten a lot of attention from fans.
The trailer starts with a shot of Mrs. Chatterjee (Rani) happily going about her days in Norway in the loving company of her husband and two children, Shubh and Shuchi.?
Later, she learns that her children had been taken away from her and put in foster care after the authorities deemed that the parents had been unable to care for them properly.?
The latter half of the trailer shows Rani fighting against the Norwegian foster care system to regain custody of her children.
