Actor?Mirza Abbas Ali was once a household name in the South. He made his debut with Tamil movie Kadhal Desam, which also starred Tabu, in 1996. Post its release, he became an overnight sensation. He starred in?Kandukondain Kandukondain, a film that featured Mammootty, Ajith Kumar and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Remember the song of?Chhuimui Si Tum Lagti Ho? Abbas Ali starred in it along with?Preeti Jhangiani.?
Once a rage in South cinema, Abbas Ali's career took a U-turn when the back-to-back failure of his films impacted his growth and soon, he faded way into oblivion. The actor is now living a quiet life abroad. However, that wasn't easy.?
After he left India, he took up odd jobs, worked at a petrol pump, cleaned bathrooms and worked as a mechanic to earn his livelihood.
"I came here with the family and was trying to settle in the new life. I worked at a petrol station, where I also washed bathrooms. After that I did insulation work in homes, then started working where I used to get my bike serviced. Worked as a mechanic for a long time and learned a lot. After this, worked in different positions in the call center and now I am working as a quality analyst," he told The Federal in an interview.
His career was quite smooth initially. Ali's maternal grandfather was actor Farrukh Mirza (known for Bengali film Neel Darpan). His paternal family is related to actor Feroz Khan. Abbas Ali grew up watching Hindi movies.
The actor's journey to stardom began with modeling after he won Face of 94 in Bangalore. After he got to know that director Kadhir was looking for a new actor, he recommended his friends to audition for it. After they insisted, he took part too. The director was so impressed with his performance that he bagged the role.?
His debut film won him the tag of a heart-throb. He went on to star in successful films including Kadhalukku Mariyadhai (1997) and Jeans (1998).?
After Jolly (1998), Ini Ellam Sugame (1998) and Aasai Thambi (1998) failed at the box office, he made his way in the Telugu industry with the remake of his debut film. Soon he became a second lead. He played Rajinikanth's son-in-law in Padayappa (1999), and a doctor in Kamal Haasan's historical film Hey Ram (2000).?Soon, he made his debut in Bollywood in 2002 with Ansh.?
When the film flopped, two films he was working on got shelved - including Aur Phir with Bipasha Basu.?With the failure of his films, he soon faded away into oblivion.??
