After slamming filmmaker Karan Johar over his remark on 'attempting to sabotage actor Anushka Sharma¡¯s career', editor-writer Apurva Asrani has once again tweeted about Karan Johar, and labelled his films 'Dostana' and 'Student Of The Year' as ¡®damaging¡¯.?
Apurva's tweet comes in response to a Twitter user, who blamed filmmaker Karan Johar's films for 'perpetuating certain stereotypes' about the LGBTQ+ community that concerns the society.?
"I will also blame Karan Johar's movies for perpetuating certain stereotypes about the LGBTQ+ community, particularly through the use of certain characters and comedic elements," the Twitter user wrote on the Elon Musk-owned platform.
Reacting to the same, writer Apurva Asrani remarked that not only filmmaker Karan Johar, but, ridiculing gay people in filmswas a trend in Bollywood and criticized some of his movies,?
Apurva also noted that Karan had backed a 'sensitive' film such as Kapoor & Sons in the year 2016.?
¡°Not just Karan Johar, it was a trend in Bollywood to ridicule and caricature gay people. But thankfully that has ended a while ago. As damaging for (rainbow flag emoji) as Dostana and Student Of The Year were, he also made Kapoor & Sons, which was more sensitive,¡± Apurva tweeted.?
Apurva posted a series of tweets wherein he discussed the Supreme Court hearing arguments on requests for marriage equality in India.
According to top reports, the top court is hearing at least 15 petitions in this regard.?
"It's an anxious time for us all. The straight peeps won't get the intensity of what we are going through as sincerely as they may try. But we are in this together,"?Apurva tweeted on Thursday.
In another Twitter post, the writer told people to leave the LGBTQ+ community alone and allow them to make their 'personal choices'.?
Speaking of Apple CEO Tim Cook, he tweeted, "#TimCook said that he was being ¡°selfish¡± by keeping quiet about his identity when he could help people by coming out. He wanted to demonstrate to gay children that they 'can be gay & still go on & do some big jobs in life.'"
