Mumbai-based television actor Karan Oberoi, who is famous for TV serial Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi and his music group band Band of Boys, was arrested on Monday, for allegedly raping and blackmailing a woman here, police said.
An FIR was registered at Oshiwara Police Station in Mumbai under sections 376 (rape) and 384 (extortion) of the Indian Penal Code against Oberoi. ANI had earlier inadvertently linked another Karan Oberoi, a fitness model, to the alleged incident and regrets the same.

¡°Karan has been charged with rape. He has also been accused of filming the act and demanding money from the victim, and threatening to release the video if she didn¡¯t pay up.¡±?

On the morning of May 6, the actor was produced in the Andheri court and he has been taken into police custody till May 9. Here is everything that you should know about the case.?
1. According to the police, the actor allegedly raped the woman on the pretext of marrying her. "Oberoi not only raped the woman and filmed the act but also demanded money from the victim, threatening to release the video if she did not pay up," said the police.?
3. Karan and the complainant have a history. The woman had in October 2018 filed a non-cognisable complaint (NC) against the actor accusing him of using her financially. Karan, too, filed a complaint against her for mental harassment ten days prior to her complaint, reports The Time of India. They both had spoken about their relationship at length.?
4. According to a report in India Today, Karan also broke down into tears during the court proceedings on May 6.
5. Karan Oberoi's lawyer Dinesh Tiwari has issued a statement saying that the allegations are false and Karan is innocent. A report in India today states his lawyer as saying,
¡°Allegations are false. We are taking the necessary steps to undo the damage that has been done and expose the person behind it,¡± the actor¡¯s lawyer said in a statement. Both of them initially had a casual chat but later, the woman started pressing Oberoi for various reasons. In order to extort money from him, she threatened to lodge a police complaint against him to defame him. When he refused to comply, the woman approached the police and registered a case on the basis of baseless allegations after which Oberoi too approached the police and gave his statement."
