The viral documentary on Netflix titled? The Social Dilemma?caught the fancy of the fans as it raised their eyebrows by revealing how social media impacts our real lives and mental health. It accused various social media platforms for making their apps deliberately addictive. Following this, Facebook has responded to the allegations made and stated that the documentary is far from reality.
"Rather than offer a nuanced look at technology, it gives a distorted view of how social media platforms work to create a convenient scapegoat for what are difficult and complex societal problems", it writes.
It also rebutted the idea that users are the product. "Facebook is funded by advertising so that it remains free for people."
Defending the algorithms, it said that Facebook's technology, "keeps the platform relevant and useful," and added, "Portraying algorithms as 'mad' may make good fodder for conspiracy documentaries, but the reality is a lot less entertaining."
People are seemingly not convinced!
