The actor-director and the brain behind the iconic Kannada movie Kantara Rishab Shetty, who was awarded Best Actor at the 70th National Film Awards, has taken a dig at Bollywood. The actor-director-writer's recent statement has not gone down well with many who are now trolling him. "Is he retarded or what?", one of the comments read.?
The actor who is promoting his forthcoming Kannada film Laughing Buddha in an interview with MetroSaga criticised Hindi films for how they portray India at international film festivals. In the clip that has now gone viral, he said, "Indian films, especially Bollywood, show India in a bad light. These art films are invited to global events and given a red carpet. My nation, my state, my language¡ªmy pride. Why not take it on a positive note globally, and that¡¯s what I try to do."
As his statement went viral, people are now trolling him. While some call him arrogant and jealous, others think his statement is retarded. "That's why I call the majority of these South stars as hypocrites.They are only concerned about their language," one of the users wrote. "This Niggga is Retarded or what? Indian Cinema is famous in overseas because of Bollywood and SRK for decades," another one said.?
Several others pointed out controversial and sexist scenes in his own movies. "Success is temporary, but pinching female waist and shitting on Bollywood is permanent," one of them pointed out.?
Meanwhile, after winning the National award, Rishab Shetty thanked his team after winning the award for Kantara. "I am just the face of the film, it is all because of their hard work. The production house, the DOP, the technicians, it is all because of them," he was quoted as saying by ANI. Written and directed by Shetty himself, the Kannada film which was released in September 2020 had him play?a dual role.?
