Dilip Kumar¡¯s ancestral home where he was born on Dec 11, 1922 as Yousuf Khan, is more than 100 years old. Located in Qissa Khawani Bazaar of Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, his home was recently declared national heritage of Pakistan after the Pakistani Government wished to buy it and turn it into a museum.
The only Indian actor to receive Pakistan¡¯s highest civilian award, Nishan-e-Imtiaz in 1998, Dilip Kumar was hailed for playing a significant role in bringing together Hindus and Muslims of the region.
"He is one guy who can bring India and Pakistan together. I gifted him my book and he signed and gifted me his autobiography. To me, this signed book will hold great significance. I wish Dilip Saab a long and healthy life," the former foreign minister of the country, Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri, said.?
Pakistan's top leadership, including President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan, condoled Kumar's death, describing him as "an outstanding actor, a humble man, and a dignified personality".
The government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) condoled the demise of the legendary actor, saying he will always be remembered for the love and affection he had for the people of his ancestral home town in the province.
Kumar visited Peshawar in the early 90's. He was given an unprecedented reception and welcome by the people of Peshawar.
Majeed Lala, who also owned a shop, said he was shocked on hearing about Kumar's death.
