She was next seen in Madhur Bhandarkar's political thriller Indu Sarkar, in which she played the titular role of Indu, a poet and writer, who fights against the Emergency.?

Being an outsider who made her own way into films, she once said, "It’s still difficult for outsiders in mainstream films. You will not find outsiders getting main, important roles in big films. The difficult part is to meet the right people."

In the film, she starred alongside Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Sharman Joshi, Sonakshi Sinha, Taapsee Pannu, and Nitya Menon. "People have this concept of lead and second lead because they see the hierarchy or stardom of an actor. To me, I was the lead in Mission Mangal. Yes, I am sharing that space with four other women, but I am still the lead,” she told Mid-Day.?

In 2019, she won an award,?Filmfare Jury Award, for the Best Female Actor in a Short film for her performance in Maya.?

In the same year, in her personal life, she took a big step when she announced separation?from husband Saahil Sehgal.?"Not on paper, but in life.
