The legal battle of defamation between Javed Akhtar and Kangana Ranaut is getting murkier. After her plea to transfer her cross-complaint was rejected in October, she has filed a fresh plea challenging the order of Mumbai Court. Here's what is happening.?
It all began in Nov 2020 when Javed Akhtar accused Kangana Ranaut of defaming her during an interview with Republic TV in which she was talking about the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. While talking about that, she allegedly dragged his name and referred to him as being a part of "Bollywood suicide gang" that could get away with anything.?
The complaint said Kangana had falsely claimed that Akhtar threatened her to keep silent about her alleged relationship with actor Hrithik Roshan. It noted that Kangana's remarks had tarnished Akhtar's public image.? ?
Both these complaints were being heard by Andheri court magistrate RR Khan. Now, Kangana has been seeking a transfer of her counter-complaint to another magistrate.
She had earlier approached Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court accusing RR Khan of "misusing his powers" and attempting to "cause injury" to her, even before the trial had begun. Her plea was however dismissed.?
Her lawyer then filed a revision application and said, "This court has many times said that it will issue a warrant against her so Kangana is not comfortable this court hearing her matter."
Now, Kangana Ranaut has moved Dindoshi sessions court to seek transfer of her cross-complaint to another competent magistrate before the sessions court.?
The case will be heard by additional sessions judge Shridhar Bhosle on Jan 27, 2022.??
