Kulwinder Kaur, a CISF constable, has been suspended for allegedly slapping Bollywood actress and newly elected BJP MP Kangana Ranaut at Chandigarh Airport. The incident is believed to be connected to Ranaut's controversial comments about Punjabi women during the farmers' protests.
On Thursday, Kulwinder Kaur, who has been working at Chandigarh Airport for the past two years, allegedly slapped Kangana Ranaut. This action was reportedly provoked by Ranaut's previous remarks on Punjabi women involved in the farmers' protests. In a video, Kaur can be heard mentioning that her mother was among the protesters.
Kulwinder Kaur, 35, is from Sultanpur Lodhi in Punjab. Her husband is also a CISF officer, and her brother, Sher Singh, is a farmer leader and secretary of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee. She has two children. Following the incident, she has been detained, and the CISF has set up a panel to investigate.

Ranaut claimed that while she was waiting to pass the CISF officer, Kaur approached and slapped her.?Ranaut said in a video message, "After I completed the security check and was waiting to pass, the woman security officer approached me, hit me, and started abusing me. When I asked why, she said she supports the farmers."
Ranaut has been vocal about the farmers' protests against three agriculture laws introduced by the Modi government. She made several controversial remarks during the protests:
In 2020, Ranaut misidentified a woman farmer from Punjab, calling her Bilkis Bano, who was a face of the anti-CAA protests. She suggested the woman could be hired for protests for Rs. 100, which sparked backlash and a heated exchange with singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh.
In February 2021, international pop star Rihanna supported the farmers' protests, prompting Ranaut to call the protesters "terrorists" trying to divide India. She insulted Rihanna in a tweet, which she later deleted.
These comments led to widespread criticism and even a demand for an apology when Ranaut's car was stopped by protesters in Punjab in December 2021. The farm laws were eventually repealed in December 2021.
Following the airport incident, Ranaut expressed concern about the rise in violence in Punjab. The CISF has formed a panel to investigate the alleged slap and determine further actions.
