Do you know actors often smoke fake cigarettes in movies? Hollywood actor Cillian Murphy once said that he smoked 3,000 cigarettes on the sets of Peaky Blinders (in two seasons). Even he played J Robert Oppenheimer, who was a chain smoker, he smoked an alarming number of cigarettes. Were they real? No, they were herbal cigarettes.
Now, Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu has revealed that he smoked ayurvedic beedi for his role as a gangster in the recently released movie Guntur Kaaram.
At first, the Indian actor was given a real beedi for a smoking scene in the movie. "I don¡¯t smoke and won¡¯t encourage smoking as well," he said and revealed how smoking beedi gave him a headache. "Initially, they gave me a real beedi, and I got migraine." After Mahesh told director Trivikram Srinivas about it, he researched and got him?"ayurvedic beedi, which I found nice. It was made of clove leaves and had a mint flavour. There was no tobacco in it," the actor revealed in a conversation with Hindustan Times.?
The highly anticipated movie was released on Jan 12. The film has so far got mixed reviews from critics and fans alike. Shah Rukh Khan also gave a shoutout to the actor and said that he was eager to watch it. "Looking forward to #GunturKaaram my friend @urstrulyMahesh!!! A promising ride of action, emotion and of course... Massss!!! Highly inflammable," he wrote on Twitter. In response, the?Sarkaru Vaari Paata actor wrote, "Thank you for all your support @iamsrk!! Love to you and all at home!"
The action-drama movie, apart from Mahesh Babu, also stars Sreeleela, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Jagapathi Babu, Ramya Krishnan, Jayaram, Prakashraj, and Sunil.
If reports are to be believed, Mahesh Babu charged a whopping Rs 78 crores for the Telugu movie. While praising the actor, director Trivikram Srinivas at the trailer launch of the movie said, "Mahesh is poised to infuse 100 percent dedication into roles that Krishna Garu could not venture into. Despite 24 years in the cinematic realm, Mahesh radiates the same energy showcased in Khaleja. His youthful vigor remains intact, reminiscent of his early years."
