Rajasthani singer Mame Khan who is known for his distinct, raw and mesmerising voice made history earlier this year by becoming the first folk artiste from India to walk the prestigious?Cannes 2022 red carpet. While everyone went?suited-booted to the prestigious film festival, Khan walked the red carpet rather rooted in Indian culture. He wore a Rajasthani folk attire.
The man behind the Coke Studio song Chaudhary has spilled the beans on why he wore an Indian outfit.?Known for crooning for movies like?Luck By Chance, No One Killed Jessica,?Mirzya?and?Sonchiriya, Mame Khan said that he wanted to represent the true culture and tradition of India.
"People there wear various forms of clothes and all, so I was like what should I wear? I thought I'm from India and representing the folk culture of India so I wore a Rajasthani safa (turban) and a coat from Kanpur," he was quoted as saying by IANS.
He added, "The interesting thing is everyone's luggage had arrived except mine and Aishwarya Rai's. I was stubborn that till the time my luggage doesn't arrive I won't go on the red carpet. There we have time slots and mine was at 4.30 p.m. but touchwood the luggage arrived at the end moment."
For the unversed, Mame Khan comes from a family of master singers who have been performing since more than fifteen generations. His energy and his vocal skills are inspired by his father and tutor, late Shri Rana Khan. Mame Khan's musical journey began in a small village named Satto near Jaisalmer, and now he is an established Bollywood singer and an exceptional live performer.
