Sid Sriram is an Indian-American singer, songwriter, and music composer known for his work predominantly in the South Indian film industry (Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam). He gained widespread recognition for his soulful and versatile voice, which has earned him a large fan following across the globe. Sid Sriram has sung several hit songs in various languages, and his unique style often blends elements of Indian classical music with contemporary genres like R&B and soul. Some of his notable songs include Adiye from the Tamil film Kadal,?Inkem Inkem Inkem Kaavaale?from the Telugu film Geetha Govindam, and Thalli Pogathey from the Tamil film Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada.?
Sriram was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. At a young age, he relocated to California's Bay Area. His journey in music commenced early, at the tender age of three, with a focus on Carnatic music, one of the primary subgenres of Indian classical music. Unlike other parents, his parents were quite supportive of his passion. His mother and grandfather turned his mentors within his own family.?
He got his first break in 2013 when AR Rahman approached him and gave him the opportunity to sing in Tamil film Kadal. The film shot him to fame.?Since then, he has been singing for the South film industry.?Besides film music, he has also released independent singles and collaborated with various artists in the music industry.
Taking to Instagram, Sid Sriram shared a clip of him singing?Thiruppugazh at Coachella and revealed the reason why he chose the religious song. In the caption, he wrote,?"If you had told 9-year-old me that I¡¯d close my @coachella set with the Thiruppugazh my mother had just taught me, I probably would¡¯ve chuckled and went back to day dreaming. Fast forward to 2024, first ever South Indian artist to play the festival."
Sharing about the experience of singing at such a big platform, he said, "On the days where the stage truly feels like home, and you¡¯re with your brothers, you get the absolute privilege of tapping into what feels like the infinite. Yesterday felt boundless and free, I am grateful beyond belief.
