According to reports, the case of sexual harassment filed against Bollywood musician Anu Malik has been closed. A Mumbai Mirror report claimed that the National Commission for Women (NWC) has closed the case ¡°due to lack of communication/substantial evidence sought from the complainant¡±.?
The report quotes NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma as saying,
¡°Responding to a complaint, we wrote to the complainant. She said she was traveling and whenever she returns, she will visit us. We waited for around 45 days. We had also asked for some documents, but after that, she never responded. The complainant had informed us that there are more women who have complaints against Anu Malik and we told her that they can also file a complaint with us but none of them have responded yet. This is not a permanent closure of the case. If the complainant comes forward or brings more evidence or submits any kind of document, we can reopen it.¡±?
Just to jog your memory a little, Anu Malik had to step down as judge from the ongoing season 11 of Indian Idol, after growing outcry against him over allegations of sexual harassment that were leveled by singer Sona Mohapatra.
It all started when, in 2018, Mohapatra had for the first time called out Malik's name, alleging sexual misconduct, which forced the composer to step down from season 10 of the show last year. Singers such as Neha Bhasin and Shweta Pandit had also joined Mohapatra in alleging sexual harassment against Malik.?
However, when Sony TV reinstated Malik on season 11 this year, Mohapatra restarted her campaign against the composer and the channel.Mohapatra had mustered huge support on social media, and people too had demanded Malik's removal from the show.??
