25 Years After Being Falsely Implicated In Spy Case, Nambi Narayanan To Get Rs 1.3 Crore Compensation
Indian scientist and aerospace engineer S. Nambi Narayanan, who is known for introducing liquid fuel rocket technology, was wrongfully arrested by the Kerela Police in sensational ISRO Espionage Case in 1994. The charges were dismissed in 1996 by CBI and he was declared non-guilty in 1998, but it was after 24 years that he received compensation of Rs 50 lakhs in September 2018 for being kept in prison for 50 days.
It is said that he could have been the chairperson of Indian Space Research Organisation. In fact, he was quite influential in designing the mechanism of the rocket that launched Chandrayaan 2. But he lost 25 years of his life in fighting off his allegations.
After so many years, the Kerala state cabinet finally gave approval to extend Nambi Narayan's compensation. Now, he will receive of Rs 1.3 crore to settle the case that he had filed at a Thiruvananthapuram Sub Court against his unlawful arrest.
Taking to Twitter, actor R Madhavan who will be seen portraying his role in the forthcoming biopic expressed his happiness on the same. ¡°Oh WOW . ABOUT TIME. SO SO HAPPY.. CONGRATULATIONS¡± (sic), he wrote.
For the unversed, Nambi Narayanan was accused by Central Bureau for selling highly confidential information, including drawings of ISRO¡¯s Vikas engine and cryogenic technology, to Maldivian women who then passed it on to Pakistan. He was then in-charge of ISRO's cryogenics division and was arrested with four others.?
He was in custody for 50 days wherein he said he was tortured and pressed to give false statements. He fought the long battle to be proven non-guilty later.?
