Narayana Murthy and Sudha Murty shared a bit about their love story as they recently appeared on The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show (TGIKSS). Here's all you need to know about their story which is charming as inspiring, filled with humor, unexpected meetings, and the simplicity. For Narayana, it was love at first sight, though Sudha needed a little more convincing. Their journey, from a modest first date to a humble wedding that cost only Rs 800, captures the essence of a love built on shared values and dreams.??
"She was full of joy, full of humour... she kind of lit up the room." When asked if it was love at first sight, Narayana Murthy said, "I would say yes for me. I don't know what she says." When Mrs Murthy was asked about the same, she said "no" and explained that because she studied at an engineering college where she was the only girl, she always saw the men she met as her friends and she was never shy.?
For the unversed, Sudha Murty is the first woman to be hired as an engineer at Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company (TELCO, which is now called Tata Motors).
Previously on The Kapil Sharma Show, Sudha Murty who had appeared with Guneet Monga and Raveena Tandon revealed that his friend Prasanna with whom she worked at the TELCO would bring her books with "Narayana Murthy¡¯s name written on the first page along with names of various locations. 'Narayana Murthy Istanbul¡¯ 'Narayana Murthy Peshawar.' I thought, is this Narayana Murthy fellow an international bus conductor?"
When she first met him, she had imagined him as a handsome hunk but that was not the case in reality. "When I was about to meet him, I thought he would look like a film's hero, dashing and handsome, but when he opened the door, I thought who is this person, this little kid?"
Narayana invited dinner with his friends. Sudha was skeptical about accepting the invitation as she was going to be the female there, but he persuaded her anyway. This was indeed their first date, which blossomed into friendship and thereafter love very soon. His simplicity and down-to-earth nature impressed her.
After dating her for a few years, Narayana Murthy proposed Sudha Murty for marriage. He said, "I am 5'4'' tall. I come from a middle-class family. I can never become rich. You are beautiful, bright, and intelligent and you will get anyone you would like. But will you still marry me?"
On The Great Indian Kapil Show recently, the couple revealed that Narayana was two hours late for meet up. Sudha's parents were already skeptical about him since he had told them about his inclination towards politics. He wanted to join a communist party and start an orphanage. Sudha's parents wanted a settled man who earned well since their daughter was so educated and working at a good salary already.?
Meanwhile, the Infosys founder's attempt to impress her father didn't go well as he turned up two hours late because of his taxi breakdown. Her father, on the other hand was very punctual and valued time.
Finally, Sudha Murty and Narayana Murthy were able to convince her parents and they agreed to their marriage. While Sudha's parents wanted a grand wedding, the couple wanted a small, humble wedding. They got married in Bengaluru at Murthy's house.? Only 5-6 people from Sudha's side attended the wedding. "He gave me Rs 300 and asked me if I wanted a Mangalsutra or a saree and I said, 'Saree wouldn't last long. So, I bough Mangalsutra in a thread. It was not even gold," she had told CNBC-TV 18 in an interview. What's more? They had split the expenses.?
