In spite of the glamour and fame, humble, Pankaj Tripathi remains to be grounded and kind and empathetic. And that's one of the reasons why he is India's favourite actor. He not only adds subtlety to his performances, but he also makes sure he remains close to his roots always.
While most Bollywood stars take a vacation abroad, just like Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh did by celebrating his birthday in the US, Pankaj Tripathi on the other hand, went to his village for a vacation. Not Maldives or Paris, when Tripathi got some time off work, he decided to visit his village in Gopalganj district.?
In the video doing the rounds on social media, he prepares Bihar's delicacy?Litti Chokha. He does it in the traditional style - sitting in a squatting position in a circle beside a coal fire baking the littis.?
"Anand le rahe hain Gaon ka... Litti Chokha bann raha hai aaj... Tubewell mein naha rahe hain...", he can be seen saying in the video.?
For the unversed, before Pankaj Tripathi tried his hands at acting, he used to work on his farm along with his father.
Tripathi hails from Bihar's Belsand village. He grew up in the village and as a child was a part of some amateur-level plays where he mostly portrayed the role of a girl onscreen.?He moved for higher studies to Patna, where his life eventually took a turn for the best.??
He struggled for 14 years and even worked at a hotel's kitchen.
"I used to work in a hotel kitchen at night and do theatre in the morning. After finishing my night shift - I did it for two years - I used to come back and sleep for five hours and then do theatre from 2-7 pm and then again hotel work from 11-7 in the morning," he had earlier told PTI.?
Last year, Pankaj Tripathi?had put forth the interesting suggestion of creating a film-friendly set-up in a village near Patna, which is well-connected to the city, where people from Bollywood can shoot.
"A film-friendly 'mohalla' or colony is possible with a little bit of funding from the government to create a film panchayat at a well-connected village near Patna, at least on a trial basis for now. The area can hence be marked by filmmakers all across the country to shoot any urban setting scenes they need to for their film, with the maximum help in the form of a solid support system provided by the locals there," Tripathi, who was born in Belasand, Gopalganj District, said.
The actor feels villagers can be trained to work as junior artistes in the films shot there, which could be a source of income for them.
