Ayushmaan Khurrana, who has been appointed the National Ambassador for children's rights by UNICEF has talked about why it's important to make children aware of LGBTQ and how adults should talk about it and normalize the current taboos.?
During the media interaction, Ayushmann, who is soon going to become the Goodwill Ambassador, after signing the contract with UNICEF in Delhi on Saturday, February 18, 2023, discussed?how he tries to convey messages through his films.
When asked about how important is it for children to know about LGBTQ, Ayushmann said, "I think children should be aware of this. It is important to normalize. I have done two films Shubh Mangal Saavdhan and Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui and many people have questioned 'you are doing these kinds of films again.' I want to say that we should keep doing such films. The more we do these kinds of films the more people would normalize."
He further stated, "Children should be taught from the start. These things are often ignored, but, I am glad that we are now advancing in this regard. It's important to induce adults into the process, they should start talking about it, otherwise, nothing would change."? ?
"As an artist, we have a social responsibility. Each and every time I try to assure some kind of conversation through my films. Being a street theatre actor I have traveled the length and breadth of my country. I know my country really well. There aren't just efforts to showcase what's happening in the society through films but to showcase what a society can become," Ayushmann said during the event.
"Ayushmann is one of India's biggest stars and we are thrilled that he is using that powerful voice to stand with children, and challenge harmful social norms and gender stereotypes," Cynthia McCaffrey, UNICEF India Representative said.? ? ??
