After enthralling the audiences as Sam Bahadur,?Vicky Kaushal is soon going to be back on the big screen essaying the role of?Parashurama in the movie titled Mahavatar, which is a mythological film directed by Amar Kaushik. The makers unveiled the first look of the actor in the role and he left his fans in shock as he looked unrecognisable in it.?
Sporting long hair and a beard, carrying an axe in his hands, Vicky is giving fierce expressions in the photos released. He is essaying the role of Chiranjeevi Parashurama, the "eternal warrior of dharma". The film is slated to be released on Christmas in 2026.?
As per Hindu mythology, Parashurama, the son of Renuka and sage Jamadagniis the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu, who is believed to still be alive, eternally roaming the earth. His name Parashu + Rama means "Rama with the axe", which was a weapon given to him by Lord Shiva. He played an important role in both?Mahabharata as well as Ramayana by serving as a mentor to Bhishma, Drona and Karna.
While other avatars of Vishnu are known for peace and compassion, Parashurama on the other hand is known for his anger and his great warrior skills. It is said that he once waged 21 battles in rage against Kshatriyas to eradicate the world of corrupt kings and establish a just rule. He was then hailed as the fierce protector of Dharma (righteousness).
Parashurama is one of the?Chiranjeevis, who are blessed with eternal life and destined to live through each age (Yuga). It is said that he resides in Mount Mahendra in penance and meditation. As per the mythology, he will reappear in the end of Kali Yuga, as the martial and spiritual guru of Kalki, the final avatar of Vishnu.?
