Cricketer Yuvraj Singh's non-profit organization, YouWeCan Foundation, developed a breast cancer awareness campaign that has drawn backlash for its phrasing, which compares breasts to "oranges." Many people feel that the effort, which aims to promote early identification of breast cancer, devalues a serious topic, which has angered the public. Posters of the same were spotted inside the Delhi metro and as soon as people spotted it, social media got flooded with several reactions against it.?
A social media user shared the poster¡¯s photo on X and wrote, ¡°How will a country raise Breast Cancer Awareness if we can¡¯t even call breasts what they are. Saw this at Delhi Metro and was like "what the hell?.¡±
?The X user also asked who makes these campaigns and they don't understand who approves these. People went on to call it ¡°Shameful and embarrassing.¡±
Taking to the said posts¡¯s comment section, many people pointed out that they also agree with how breasts can be called breasts and another word should not be used to refer to it. Some even said that the ad needs to be taken down.
One wrote, ¡°Even it is an AI image. Yuvi himself is a cancer survivor and if it is done by his org then it seems they don¡¯t understand the gravity of the issue and how ideally it should be communicated.¡±
?Another added, ¡°This is not awareness, this is cheapness.¡±
People pointed out how Yuvraj himself is a cancer survivor. For the unversed, in 2011, Yuvraj Singh received a diagnosis of mediastinal seminoma, a rare type of lung cancer. In the United States, he received treatment that included multiple chemotherapy sessions. Yuvraj Singh was cancer-free in March 2012.?
