Chidananda S Naik, a student from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), has won the prestigious La Cinef first prize at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. His short film, 'Sunflowers Were The First Ones To Know', earned this top honour on Thursday. This award highlights the exceptional talent emerging from India's film schools and marks a significant achievement for Naik on the international stage.

The film is based on a Kannada folk tale about an old woman who steals a rooster, making her village stay dark forever.
The first prize winner at the Cannes Film Festival receives a 15,000 euro (13,50,044 Indian rupees) grant.
Third prize: Bunnyhood, directed by Mansi Maheshwari from Meerut, India, and a former student of NIFT Delhi.
Second prize: Out of the Widow Through the Wall, directed by Asya Segalovich from Columbia University.
