The tragic death of Nafisa Rizvi Khan popularly known as Jiah Khan, who passed away on June 3rd, 2013 still remains one of the most controversial cases that shocked Bollywood. Jiah Khan had left a suicide note that allegedly made mentions of her then-boyfriend Sooraj Pancholi, the son of Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab resulting in his arrest.
After nearly a decade, in April 2023, Sooraj was eventually acquitted of all charges including abetting the suicide. Pancholi's mother Zarina in a recent interview with Lehren Retro raked up the matter again, claiming that Jiah had attempted suicide many times. ¡°Uske pehle bhi usne 4-5 baar try kiya hai, lekin naseeb aisi thi ki jab mere bete ka turn aaya toh it happened (Even before that, she had tried 4-5 times, but it was destiny that when my son¡¯s turn came, it happened),¡± she said.
As the conversation reignites, here¡¯s a quick look at what the chargesheet says about Jiah¡¯s death.
On December 11, 2015, a supplementary chargesheet was filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) before a sessions court naming Sooraj Pancholi for abetting Jiah Khan¡¯s suicide. A promise not honoured, being ignored and a ¡°misunderstanding¡± was listed as some reasons that drove the actress to take her life. It also clarified that there was no foul play and Jiah Khan did die by suicide.
The chargesheet highlighted Jiah¡¯s hand-written six-page suicide note stating, ¡°You (Sooraj) promised me once we made it to one year we would get engaged¡± and was indicated as the ¡°false promises given by the accused (Sooraj) to the deceased (Jiah)¡±. The chargesheet accessed by Indian Express revealed that Jiah developed an emotional attachment due to the said promise and the ¡°wilful conduct of the accused drove the deceased to commit suicide¡±.
Jiah Khan was last seen in the 2010 film Housefull.
