Is Aashiqui 3 happening? Here’s everything we know so far about Mukesh Bhatt’s next headlined by Kartik Aaryan

Aashiqui 3 Update: Back on September 5, 2022, Bhushan Kumar and Mukesh Bhatt announced that they were teaming up for the third instalment of the famous Aashiqui franchise. The film was set to be directed by Anurag Basu, with Kartik Aaryan in the lead role and music by Pritam. However, since then, there has been no concrete update. Now a new untitled film with the same team except Mukesh has been announced.

What’s the update on Aashiqui 3?

In March 2024, Bhushan Kumar revealed that T-Series would be producing the movie alone, with a new title, Tu Aashiqui Hai. This came after a creative disagreement with Mukesh Bhatt. A few months later, in November 2024, reports suggested Kartik Aaryan was keen on keeping the movie within the Aashiqui franchise, but that still doesn’t seem likely.

Who owns the rights to the Aashiqui franchise?

Mukesh Bhatt's company, Vishesh Films, created the Aashiqui franchise. He has made it clear that no one can make another Aashiqui film without his permission. In December 2024, Bhatt told HT City, "As far as I’m concerned, Aashiqui 3 is stuck. Bhushan Kumar can't make it without me, and I don’t want to make it with him. There’s been no progress at all." In fact, in September 2024, the Delhi High Court prohibited T-Series from using the Aashiqui title without Bhatt's approval.

Rumours were suggesting that Triptii Dimri, who was initially supposed to star opposite Kartik in Aashiqui 3 was dropped from the project. However, an HT City source revealed that these reports were false and that there is no ongoing discussion about the film. In addition, rumours also claimed Sharvari was being considered as the female lead, but the same source confirmed that Sharvari is not part of the project either and isn't involved in any T-Series films right now.

As of now, Aashiqui 3 is on hold indefinitely, with no progress being made. The team of Anurag Basu, Kartik Aaryan, and Bhushan Kumar have announced a film with Sreeleela which is set on a similar theme but is still untitled. Several reports claim that while the makers are still trying hard to get the Aashiqui 3 title for their film, Mukesh Bhatt is not letting this slip in.
