Kanguva box office collection 7 days: Suriya’s film earns nearly 13% of what RRR made in its first week

Suriya’s Kanguva, which hit the screens on November 14, has ended its first week on a disappointing note. The fantasy drama has also received negative reviews with critics panning the screenplay and the execution.

Kanguva, starring Suriya, opened to a good response at the domestic box office on November 14 and collected Rs 24 crore (nett) on the first day. It, however, crashed on the second day because of the unimpressive word-of-mouth. It then witnessed some growth on the first weekend before failing the Monday Test. Siva’s magnum opus has now ended its first week on an underwhelming note. According to Sacnilk, a trade tracking website, the film collected merely Rs 2.40 crore on Wednesday (November 20). Its week 1 collection stands at Rs 62.40 crore.

Kanguva, shot on a budget of Rs 350 crore, was billed as a game changer for the Tamil film industry and many expected it to become the first Tamil film to enter the Rs 1000 crore club worldwide. In fact, prior to its release, producer KE Gananavel Raja told Galatta? that he was expecting the biggie to earn Rs 2000 crore globally.?

This led to comparisons between Kanguva and RRR. SS Rajamouli's film, shot on a budget of Rs 550 crore,? grossed Rs 1, 387 crore at the box office in its lifetime.? Moreover, according to Sacnilk, Telugu biggie raked in Rs 477.5 crore (nett) in its first week in India.??
