Who doesn¡¯t know about Ranu Mondal? The woman who sang Lata Mangeshkar's soulful number Ek Pyaar Ka Nagma Hai at a railway station and instantly shot to fame. So much so, that now she has recorded three songs for a film.
While everyone is praising her and is touched by her story, Lata Mangeshkar whose song gave her all the recognition and fame, says ¡°be original¡±.
While talking about Ranu Mondal¡¯s popularity, Lata Mangeshkar expressed her happiness but apparently she had some reservations as well.
¡°Agar mere naam aur kaam se kissiko bhala hota hai toh main apne-aap ko khush-kismat samajhti hoon,¡± she was quoted as saying by IANS.
She added that singing her songs will only give ¡°short-term attention.¡±
¡°But I also feel imitation is not a reliable and durable companion for success. By singing my songs or Kishoreda's (Kumar), or (Mohd) Rafi Saab's, or Mukesh Bhaiyya or Asha's (Bhosle) numbers, aspiring singers can get short-term attention,¡± she added.
¡°But it won't last,¡± Lata Mangeshkar continued. Furthermore, she also expressed her worry for the talent she sees on music reality TV shows. ¡°So many children sing my songs so beautifully. But how many of them are remembered after the first flush of success? I only know of Sunidhi Chauhan and Shreya Ghosal.¡±
She advises?aspiring singers to ¡°be original. By all means sing the evergreen songs by me and my colleagues. But after a point the singer must seek and find his or her own song."
Lata Mangeshkar doesn¡¯t want aspiring singers to just be her shadow. ¡°If Asha (Bhosle) had not insisted on singing in her own style she would have remained in my shadow forever. She is the biggest example of how far individuality can take one's talent to.¡±
Did you Ranu Mondal¡¯s daughter says her mother is ¡°mentally imbalanced¡±?
