Sikandar ka Muqaddar Controversy: A scene capturing the flamingos in the recently released Netflix movie has stirred a new row among environmentalists. As per a Free Press Journal report, the greens have alleged that the flamingo shot was captured from a close angle purportedly via a drone. The complaint was made to the Mangrove Cell with a request to take the issue in cognizance legally with the Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner, NRI Coastal police station and CIDCO.
A part of the NatConnect Foundation¡¯s complaint stated that during the timeline 1:03:44 to 1:03:54 in the movie, a shot captured at TS Chanakya by a drone was shown where the device might have flown over the flamingos resting on the wetland and mudflat. BN Kumar, Director of the Foundation said, ¡°We have no objection whatsoever to the featuring the beauty of flamingos in the movie, but the use of drones flying over the resting birds is certainly objectionable.¡±
According to him, drones with sharp blades create a whirring noise which can easily disturb the resting birds. ¡°The flamingos could get grievously injured or even killed if they come in contact with the flying machines,¡± Kumar added. Flamingos are part of the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) red list of near-threaded vulnerable species.
The conservation organizations have been advocating for the protection of flamingos and their habitats as a component of the city¡¯s biodiversity, which is under threat. The State government has established a high-level committee to investigate and provide recommendations for conserving the DPS Flamingo Lake, a vital flamingo habitat. The report from the committee is currently pending.
