This?Mother¡¯s Day 2023, let¡¯s celebrate the mothers of Indian cinema who came out of the notion of ¡®motherhood is a full stop¡¯ and had a powerful comeback in showbiz after being real-life supermoms. Read ahead:-
1. Madhuri Dixit - This superstar of the late 80s and 90s chose to marry at the peak of her career. Just after the release of the blockbuster film Devdas in 2002, Madhuri was away from the limelight embracing her marriage and then later her motherhood.
Dixit returned to cinemas at a slower pace and boom, she was seen all over in just a few years. In 2007 her career revived with Aaja Nachle and then she later featured in films like Dedh Ishqiya, Gulaab Gang, Bucket List and Maja Maa.
2. Kajol -?She is one of the very few actresses who barely took a pause from the industry for her personal engagements. Just like Madhuri, Kajol also married during the peak of her career in 1999 and continued to do films like Dil Kya Kare, Hum Aapke Dil Me Rehte Hain, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gum and Kal Ho Na Ho.
In 2003, she gave birth to daughter Nysa and within two years she returned to cinemas with Fanaa. It never felt like motherhood anyway stopped the DDLJ girl as her films since then like U, Me Aur Hum, My Name Is Khan and We Are Family kept ruling our hearts and minds.
3. Rani Mukherji - As we remember supermoms today, Rani¡¯s upcoming film Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway is also based on motherhood. Well, Rani in her personal life was somewhat like Kajol who barely got off sight. She married in 2014 and gave birth to a daughter the following year.
Rani returned with a bang after embracing motherhood with films like Mardaani and Hichki which proved that nothing can put a pause on her calibre.
4. Juhi Chawla - Fearing the taboos involved with a heroine¡¯s marriage and kids, Juhi hid her wedding with industrialist Jay Mehta for close to five years until her daughter was born. She then took a year gap and returned to showbiz with films like 3 Deewaarein, Jhankaar Beats and Des Hoya Pardes.
5. Alia Bhatt - The latest mommy on the list is the on-screen Gangubai Kathiwadi. Alia gave birth to daughter Raha while juggling her shooting schedules in 2022. She stands tall as an example that being a mother is a smooth ride if you are ready for it. The actress will soon be seen in Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani and Heart Of Stone.
6. Raveena Tandon - Raveena after being the filmmaker¡¯s favourite heroine till 2004 dwelled in her personal life between 2005-2014. However, she did a few projects between these years but became vigorously active after featuring in 2015¡¯s film Chehre. The biggest stint of her career's second leg was the success of KGF 2.
7. Neena Gupta - Shining at 60, Neena became a single mother to designer Masaba Gupta in 1989. Interestingly, she is the only one on the list whose career after being a mom is the most successful one. Where she did just 17 films before embracing motherhood, her count stands at 60 after Masaba's birth. How beautiful na?
8. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan - India¡¯s 1999 Miss World Aishwarya married in the year 2007 but remain active in showbiz until 2011 when her daughter Aradhya was born. After embracing motherhood, Aish returned to cinemas with Jazbaa in 2015 and went on to star in films like Sarbjit, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Fanney Khan and PS1.
9. Sridevi - This India¡¯s first female superstar gave her heart to cinema and family equally. After having more than a super successful career, Sridevi went on a hiatus of 15 years to look after her kids. But when she returned, it was a blockbuster stint. Sridevi made a comeback with 2012¡¯s English Vinglish which was a declared superhit.
10. Shilpa Shetty - The Dhadkan girl married in 2009 and gave birth to a son in 2012. Soon after a brief break, Shilpa returned back to become a popular judge of TV reality shows and even starred in films like Hungama and Nikamma. Moreover, Shilpa largely embraced her entrepreneurial and social activism journey after welcoming her daughter via surrogacy.
11. Lara Dutta - India¡¯s Miss Universe 2000 Lara Dutta is a mother to daughter Saira Bhupathi who was born in 2012. Lara who featured in Don 2, Housefull and Chalo Dilli just before embracing motherhood returned to cinemas with 2015¡¯s Singh Is Bliing. Since then there has been no looking back for her.
12. Sonali Bendre - Sonali who chose to embrace her marriage and motherhood after marrying Goldie Behl in 2002, returned to rule the television as a judge on multiple reality shows. Even her comeback role in Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara was appreciated largely. Bendre recently got cancer free in 2021.
13. Kareena Kapoor Khan - Bollywood¡¯s Bebo married Nawab Saif Ali Khan in 2012. Even though she embraced motherhood for a great time with the birth of her two sons, Kareena barely went off sight. She managed her personal and professional front effortlessly and calling any of her films a ¡®comeback¡¯ will be a sin.
14. Anushka Sharma - Anushka who is a proud mother to Vamika with cricketer Virat Kohli is getting ready for her comeback. Even her brief screen appearance after embracing motherhood in Qala broke the internet by storm, we wonder what her film Chakda Xpress will do when it¡¯ll hit the theatres later this year.
15. Karishma Kapoor - Karishma who briefly married Sanjay Kapur had two kids with him. Even with a falling apart personal life, Kapoor returned to cinemas after embracing motherhood in 2012 with the film Dangerous Ishq. She then also appeared as a judge in several TV shows and starred in the web series Mentalhood as well.
