Sidhu Moose Wala's murder in a busy marketplace and in broad daylight has left everyone in shock. Not one, two or a few, but thirty rounds of bullets were shot at him. The gun violence and gangster culture of Punjab has sent shivers down the spine of everyone. But is it the first time??
India-born Canadian singer AP Dhillon revealed the reality of Punjabi singers and artistes in India. He said that artistes are often subjected to "hate-filled comments, threats and negative energy" for simply doing what they love to do.?

Punjabi singer Parmish Verma, known for songs like?Le Chakk Main Aa Gya and Gaal Ni Kadni, was attacked by a gangster in Mohali. He along with his friend?Kulwant Singh Chahal was shot at by gangster Dilpreet Singh Dhahan who had declared about his plan in a Facebook post.?He sustained a bullet wound in his leg and was admitted to Fortis Hospital. Dhahan then wrote on Facebook that Verma was lucky to have escaped with his life. "I, Dilpreet Singh Dhahan, want to tell everyone that I¡¯m behind the shooting of Parmish Verma." Police had then provided security to Verma.
Parmish Verma had written on Facebook, "There is something I wanted to clear the air about. The incident that took place was purely a threat for extortion. I have no enmity with anyone.?I have never been involved directly or indirectly with the people. I am falsely being associated with by certain media and social media channels."
Later, three people were arrested in the case.
Actor-singer Gippy Grewal had also received extortion threats via video call from the same gangster Dilpreet Dhahan who had attacked Parmish Verma. He was warned that the Parmish Verma incident will be repeated with him. Grewal reported the same to the Police after which a case was registered against the gangster. This happened when Gippy Grewal had been busy promoting his forthcoming movie Carry On Jatta 2.?
It has been reported that singer Mankirt Aulakh who is known for his song Gangland, is getting threats from Sidhu Moose Wala's killers. Aulakh increased his security in April after receiving threat calls from Davinder Bambiha gang. Apparently, the gang has also issued threats on Facebook after Moose Wala's death. In the post, they said that Aulakh was associated with Lawrence Bishnoi gang who was behind Moosewala's death.?
Another bussing Navjot Singh was shot dead in Dera Bassi near Chandigarh. His boy bearing five bullets was found a few metres away from his car lying in a pool of blood at a vacant plot. While his family said that he had no enmity, Police registered a case of murder as his cards, wallet, gold chain and phone were intact. It wasn't a case of looting.
Singer-politician Balkar Sidhu also received extortion calls and threats. It started after his Facebook account was hacked. He was blackmailed that some obscene video will be shared on his page to tarnish his image if he doesn't pay the caller Rs 8400. Thinking that someone needed easy money, Sidhu transferred the money. Things only got worse from here. Now the demand for money was in lakhs. That's when he reported the matter to the Police.
Jalandhar based singer Rai Jujhar got death threats. He posted a video on social media revealing that?he got a call from an unknown source threatening to kill him owing to his inappropriate songs. He then filed a complaint at Kharar city police.
Punjabi singer and songwriter Karan Aujla, who was Sidhu Moose Wala's rival, was threatened earlier this year by a gangster group -?Harry Chatha group. Not only death threats were issued on social media against him but gunshots were also fired at his friend¡¯s house in Surrey, Canada.The message read, "Karan Aujla... How long will you provide damage to your friends?" The threat hinted at his notorious songs. "We know where your sister lives, and the one who stays by your side, her boutique. But we don¡¯t want to harm them. We¡¯ve done this to you in Canada. We are waiting for your Europe tour and in India our brother Harry Chatha is waiting for you. How much time will be left to change the address, if not today, then tomorrow will come in handy". It is said that Karan Aujla and Sidhu Moose Wala's rivalry played on through songs, social media handles, and live performances. He recently penned down a heartfelt note in the memory of Sidhu Moose Wala.
Punjabi singer Naitram, popularly known as?R Nait, a resident of Mansa was attacked in his own house over the contract of singers by around 20 people. It is said that he was about to release song Galat Gal but the recording company B Together told him not to do so. He was threatened to not release the song. He alleged that he had already paid?Rs 3.5 lakh to producers, and when he asked them to return the extra money, he was assaulted at a park at Homeland Towers in Sector 70, where he was living then.?
