Hollywood has Marvel Cinematic Universe, Conjuring universe and much more. But what does Bollywood have? Can superheroes be made in India? Rohit Shetty, who thinks that Indian movies doesn¡¯t have the budget required for superhero movies, opted to cop universe instead.
He had earlier revealed that inspiration came from Avengers. It all started with Singham, which starred Ajay Devgn in the role of Bajirao Singham. Last year, the filmmaker expanded the universe with Ranveer Singh starrer Simmba. Now, he is making another cop drama with Akshay Kumar titled Sooryavanshi, and reportedly, he has plans to introduce a female cop in his cop universe soon.
But before that happens, the cops will reunite on the big screen. As per a report on Mumbai Mirror, Ranveer Singh and Ajay Devgn will join Akshay Kumar in the final act for Rohit Shetty¡¯s Sooryavanshi. The ¡°larger-than-life¡± situation will be full of ¡°maardhaad, drama and humour,¡± adds the report.
Is Rohit Shetty giving India its superheroes? "I can't claim that I am making India's superheroes. But we are creating our own universe and I am happy that people are loving it and they know about this universe," Rohit had earlier told IANS.
The decision to merge the cop films together wasn¡¯t easy, he says. "When I started with Simmba, when we were scripting for the film and we thought about the universe getting merged, I was a bit scared. Whether people will (like it)... Suddenly they should not feel 'what is happening'," he added.
Starring Katrina Kaif as female lead, Sooryavanshi is scheduled to release in March 2020.
