Former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officer Sameer Wankhede has initiated legal proceedings against renowned entertainer Rakhi Sawant and her advocate, Ali Kaashif Khan.
Wankhede, known for his high-profile drug busts, filed a defamation case amounting to Rs. 11 lakh, citing damages to his reputation.
The case has been presented before the Dindoshi City Civil Court, Malad, located in Mumbai, India.
Wankhede's petition contends that Sawant and Khan made efforts to tarnish his image through defamatory statements.
The former officer asserts that their actions have caused significant harm to his standing and credibility.
Responding to the allegations, Ali Kaashif Khan, representing Rakhi Sawant, pointed out legal nuances concerning defamation.
He cited provisions within the Indian Penal Code (IPC) that allow for the expression of opinions regarding the conduct of public servants, provided they are made in good faith and for public benefit.
Khan affirmed their intention to vigorously contest the allegations in court and expressed confidence in their defence.
He also indicated a willingness to abide by legal verdicts, asserting readiness to pay the claimed amount if Wankhede's case is proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
