In a surprising move that has sent shockwaves through the cricketing world, reports indicate that Bollywood superstar and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) co-owner Shah Rukh Khan has extended a blank cheque offer to former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir in a bid to lure him back to the KKR fold for the upcoming IPL 2024 season.
Gambhir, who enjoyed successful stints with KKR in the past, notably leading the team to IPL glory in 2012 and 2014, had departed the franchise in 2017 to join the Delhi Capitals. However, after two fruitful years with the Lucknow Super Giants, the seasoned campaigner has made a sensational return to the Kolkata-based franchise.
Despite no official confirmation on whether Gambhir accepted the blank cheque offer, the 42-year-old cricketer has nonetheless rejoined KKR, expressing his determination to lead the team to victory once again.
In his first address since rejoining the team, Gambhir emphasised the importance of providing players with freedom and equality within the squad, underscoring a unified mission to secure KKR's third IPL title.
"In this group, everyone will be treated equally. There is no senior or junior, no domestic or international divide, because our sole mission is to clinch the IPL trophy. Everyone needs to adhere to this singular objective," Gambhir asserted in a video released by KKR.
With the IPL 2024 season set to kick off on March 23, KKR's campaign will begin with a high-stakes encounter against Pat Cummins-led Sunrisers Hyderabad at the historic Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata. The team is gearing up to face formidable opponents like the Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the initial stages of the tournament.
