The eighth day of Chaitra Navratri is called Ashtami. Ashtami, also known as Ashtami or Durgashtami, is considered as one of the most auspicious days of Navratri and Durga Puja festivities. This year Ashtami falls on Tuesday, April 16. Devotees worship Goddess Mahagauri, the eighth incarnation of Maa Durga on this day. During the nine-day Navratri festival, devotees worship Maa Durga's nine incarnations in order to obtain her blessings.
Today we are celebrating the 8th day of Chaitra Navratri 2024 and Kanjak Puja. So let's take a look at the Goddess?Mahagauri Colour,?Puja Vidhi, Kanjak Puja Shubh Muhurat, Mantra, Bhog and Aarti lyrics.
According to Hindu mythology, Mahagauri attained "Gaur Varna" by rigorous penance. The name 'Mahagauri' means the one extremely bright. She mounts on the ox.
On this day, people also perform?Kanya/Kumari Puja or Kanjak. Devotees invite small kids at home to offer food and worship them as Devi and Launguras. The day is also observed as Durgashtami by those who observe Durga Puja.
Young girls are considered to be an avatar of Nava Durga on earth and during Durga Ashtami and Maha Navami, they are worshipped. It is written in our sacred books that praying a human would get faster results than praying God himself and children are the purest form of human beings. So, to worship the pure soul and acknowledge the power of the feminine, people hold Kanjak Poojan.
As per tradition, Kanjak Puja begins with washing the feet of young girls aged between 2-10 years. Next, kumkum and Akshat (rice) tilak is applied to their forehead and a kalava is tied in their hands. After that, they are given prasad made from tender coconut, followed by Poori, halwa, and Kala chana. At the end of puja, they are also offered gifts in the form of money, jewellery, clothes, toys, etc. Finally, the devotee touches their feet asking for their blessings, and after their departure, the devotee breaks the fast with leftover food.
The Ashtami Tithi starts at 12:11 on April 15, 2024, and concludes at 13:23 on April 16, 2024, according to Drik Panchang.
