A major part of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is now open to the public. A 3.5-kilometre section from Daat Kali to Asharodi is fully operational, making travel between Delhi and Dehradun easier. This section is part of a 31.6 km-long road that aims to reduce traffic and make journeys smoother. The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is an important project that provides a quicker and better travel experience for all road users.
The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway route starts from the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Akshardham in Delhi. It passes through several key locations, including Shastri Park, Khajuri Khas, EPE interchange at Khekra in Mandola, Baghpat, Shamli, and Saharanpur, before finally reaching Dehradun in Uttarakhand. This six-lane highway has replaced the older three-lane road, allowing for faster and smoother travel.
The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is a 212 km-long, six-lane, access-controlled highway built at a cost of Rs 12,000 crore. It is split into four sections to help manage traffic better. Some of its main features include:
Seven underpasses to keep traffic flowing smoothly.
Two Railway Over Bridges (ROBs) to avoid disruptions from trains.
54 junctions, which include 17 major and 37 minor junctions.
Two raised sections, each 200 metres long, improving connectivity.
For the safety of pedestrians, especially students, foot-over bridges will be placed at different points. These will help people cross safely without affecting traffic.
One of the highlights of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is that the first 18 km from Akshardham Temple to Loni is toll-free. This is meant to make daily commutes within Delhi easier. However, after this stretch, toll charges will be applicable as per the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) rules. The exact Delhi-Dehradun Expressway toll fees will depend on the type of vehicle and the distance covered.
With the opening of the Daat Kali to Asharodi section, the expressway will offer a faster, safer, and more convenient travel experience. Earlier, only three lanes were available, but now all six lanes are open, reducing travel delays. Once the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is fully finished, it will cut the journey time between Delhi and Dehradun from 6 hours to only 2.5 hours.
